Stainless Steel is a common ferrous alloy, used in many different applications across the industrial spectrum because of its resistance to corrosion and its strength.

300 Series Stainless Steel

Stainless steel alloys of the 300 series – the Austenitic Grades – with Nickel and Chrome as principle alloying elements, gives this broad range of alloys use in common kitchen environments to aerospace parts.

  • SS Type 301 can be work-hardened to achieve high tensile properties.
  • SS Type 304 is the most universally used grade.
  • SS Type 316 has additional Molybdenum for enhanced corrosion resistance.

Additional grades, each engineered for particular applications, are: 303, 309, 310, 317, 321, 330, and 347.

400 Series Stainless Steel

The 400 series of stainless steels – the Martensitic and Ferritic Grades – whose principle alloying element is Chrome, some of which can be hardened using heat-treatment. It is used in many applications from knife blades to automotive mufflers and trim.

  • Primary 400 Series SS Types: 403, 405, 409, 410, 416, 418, 440C, 430, and 455.

PH Grades

Precipitation hardening stainless steel can be hardened by heat treatment, thereby combining high strength and hardness with corrosion resistance that is greater than that of the martensitic chromium stainless steels. Most applications of precipitation hardening steels or PH grades, as they are known, are for corrosion resistance and strength retention at elevated temperatures.
